What does it take to grow as a disciple of Jesus?
As I researched this conversation, five things stood out to me—and they challenged where I was in my own faith.
My deepest desire? I want to go as far with the Lord as he has planned for me. But I’m still wrestling with what He’s asking me to lay down. Maybe you can relate.
In Part 2 of The Making of a Disciple, we’re digging into what it means to move beyond the beginning of our faith and grow into disciples who can carry out the Great Commission.
I’m sharing five things I’m calling my “AHAs.” Some were familiar, but revisiting them made me take another look at what following Jesus requires of us.
What you’ll hear in this episode:
- A disciple goes beyond salvation and grows toward spiritual maturity.
- Being a disciple is costly—and involves taking up our cross daily.
- Discipleship is a calling and an invitation to be with Him.
- Following Jesus brings us into direct conflict with the spirit of the world.
- Communion with the Holy One is key to the process of becoming.
We’ll talk about the pull to look like everyone else, the things we hold on to, and how those things can keep us from picking up what God has for us.
I’m asking myself these questions, too. My hope is that this conversation challenges and encourages you as you become a disciple and journey with others in their becoming.
